The homeowner’s love of her garden was the seed that started this remodel. “I want my garden to be seen by everyone!” By removing a nonstructural wall, the visual space was blown open. Then the garden could be seen from every spot in the kitchen. When the outdoors was in full view, it became obvious that the use of natural materials and finishes in the kitchen would compliment nature. Maple was used for the cabinets, honed granite on the counters and back splash, and exotic wood was inlaid for a cutting board. The wall color was bright and cheerful.

While my client prefers being “the only cook in the kitchen” she did not want to be excluded from her guests. With an open wall between the kitchen and the family room, the guests and cook can chat while the party is going on.
